Propionaldehyde is an organic compound, molecular formula is C3H6O, molecular weight is 58.08, colorless transparent liquid. It is used for synthetic fiber, rubber accelerator and anti-aging agent, can also be used as antifreeze, lubricant, dehydrating agent, etc.

Under the influence of ultraviolet light, iodine or heat, It can decompose into carbon dioxide and ethane and so on. It can aggregate. Propionic acid is formed when propionaldehyde oxidized with air, hypochlorite and dichromate.

Propionaldehyde is flammable, its vapor and air can form explosive mixture, in case of open fire and high heat it easily combust or explode.
